SERVICES:
POST PARTUM PELVIC DYSFUNCTION

Do you experience:

Pelvic pain?

Leakage of urine?

Decreased sexual satisfaction?

Pain when walking?

You are not alone.

Seventy percent of women have a neuropathy postpartum. The above are a few of the common problems women have following even a simple delivery. Episiotomies and vaginal tearing can result in scarring that is painful because the scar tissue is not as elastic as the original one.

Incontinence can be the result of uterine prolapse, muscle stretching, nerve stretching with impaired bladder control or rectal control. All these complications can follow a forceps delivery or a long difficult labor, but they are also encountered after uncomplicated vaginal deliveries.

All of the above, in combination with the hormonal changes and life adjustment of postpartum, can affect a woman's sexual function.

There are many things that we can do to help, and early treatment is essential in order to avoid long term consequences.

Pelvic muscle weakness and urinary or fecal incontinence can be addressed with behavioral modification techniques and pelvic floor muscle strengthening.

Biofeedback, electrical stimulation and ultrasound are used to augment both strengthening and pelvic pain programs.

Often, after retraining muscles, women can feel even stronger than before childbirth because they have focused on, and used their muscles effectively.

If you feel blue: Post partum depression is not part of pelvic dysfunction, but is a common problem in post partum and can deepen and worsen if left untreated.

For those mothers that experience post partum depression we can help by referring to trained, experienced psychotherapist and / or by prescription of antidepressant medications. Do not wait to seek help if you feel overwhelmed and depressed after your delivery
